Happy New Year!

I know I am a day early, but I am so excited about 2010!  First, the brand new Close to My Heart Spring 2010 goes love tomorrow.  I have had the pleasure of perusing it for most of December (a  perk of being a consultant) and LOVE it!  I feel so inspired by the papers and stamps, like my creativity has begun to flow again at warp speed!  You've GOTTA see this one!
The four new paper packs are:  Caboodle, Topstitch, You Rock, and Veranda!

Speaking of Caboodle, we'll be using this delicious paper for January NO RULES Club!  We are going to use the sea sponge tool to create a gorgeous and unique background, as well as heat embossing!  Are you in my club?  Well, now is the time to start coming!  What does NO RULES mean?  Well, it's pretty simple.  There is no commitment to coming every month:  when you come, you get a gorgeous two page layout and a card for free in exchange for placing a $20 order.  If you can't come, no big deal.  We'll catch you next time.  If your order is over $25, then you are eligible for hostess rewards!  FREE STUFF!  Please click here to let me know you are coming!!  January 21 at 10 am, and January 22 at 7 pm, both at my home in Tuckerton.

Another reason I am so excited for 2010 is I have a goal to grow my amazing team of consultants this year.  Here is a business opportunity that takes only $99 to start, and the possibilities are endless.  Do you want a discount?  Sign up!  Do you want to make some extra income to pay bills, go on vacation, go back to school, or buy something special?  Sign up!  Do you want to take charge of your income, quit your day job, and make unlimited amounts of money???? SIGN UP!  I am looking for more amazing women who are hobbyists, part time earners, and full time business-minded people to join my team and make 2010 profitable and more fun for ALL of us!  Click here to join my team TODAY!

Here it is!!! Felicity for National Papercrafting Month!

Here it is!  Felicity is Close to My Heart's brand new B&T packet so you can craft to your heart's content!

This pack includes three main colors:  sorbet, twilight, and barn red.  You can add bamboo, chocolate, cocoa, sweet leaf, the possibilities are endless!

Also included are round die cuts and square die cuts, which are hot trends right now in papercrafting.  Use them whole or cut them up, you have plenty of options to choose from!

Here are my other pages that I've made so far using this fabulous pack:

This is the right page that goes with my previous post, from Calgary Regionals last spring.

And another layout focusing on sorbet, chocolate, cocoa, and barn red:

Left side

Close up of the B&T I made using desert sand cardstock, the argyle stamp that comes in the Felicity paper pack, desert sand ink, sorbet ink, and barn red ink.  I stamped the flourishes and birds (that also come in the stamp set) over the argyle with cocoa ink and then used my sea sponge to gently distress the whole thing with some desert sand ink.  Looks cool!
I also sea sponged a bit of ink on the die cut here to match the distressed look of the rest of the layout.  It is already distressed, but not dark enough for me.

You can earn this amazing kit for free by purchasing $60 in stamp sets, placing an order of $125 or more, or having a $400 gathering!  Or buy it outright for $34.95.  Please contact me to buy it, or go to my website to order!

Sneaky Peek at Felicity!

Starting December 15th, Close to My Heart starts celebrating National Papercrafting Month a little bit early!  National Papercrafting Month is January, and CTMH always celebrates with an amazing paper pack and exclusive stamp set.  The have outdone themselves this year!  The paper pack includes so many colors that you can really go in any color palette and make it work.  For this layout, I chose to use twilight, desert sand, bamboo, cocoa, and chocolate.
The stamp set includes a full uppercase alphabet, you can see it there in the title, two birds that have a flourish on them (can't wait to try heat embossing and resist inking with those birds!!), flourishes, an argyle that I used on another layout, flowers, and leaves.  It is AWESOME!

I embellished this page with silver brads up in the upper left corner, and rounded my photo.  That's me with Jeanette Lynton, founder and CEO of Close to My Heart and one of my personal inspirations.  I've been waiting for just the right paper pack to scrap my trip to Calgary Regionals last spring and my photos of meeting Jeanette, asking her my question, and all that good stuff, and Felicity is IT!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  More info on the 15th!

My take on Tim Holtz's Christmas Tags

I have been checking out Tim Holtz's blog recently to see how he's doing his 12 Tags of Christmas projects.  They are really cool but REALLY involved!  Some of the tags have over 40 steps!  I don't know about you, but I really don't like when projects are so involved that it takes me forever to get it done.

So I decided to try making a tag using ONLY Close to My Heart products, and trying to make the tag Faster*Simpler*Easier~of course!

I started with a white tag, one I've had clogging up my desk forever, and used the sea sponge tool to ink the background with desert sand ink.  Then I used the same tool and added a little twilight ink, then again the sponge and outdoor denim ink to give it lots of depth.

I stamped using outdoor denim and Vintage Christmas and just added the words to the background, and the saying on the bottom.  I added a strip of Aspen paper, tearing one side and inking that with outdoor denim ink too.  I inked the dimensional element with desert sane, stamped the Christmas sentiment in outdoor denim, then sponged a tiny bit with twilight and outdoor denim until it looked the way I wanted.

I used a metal rimmed tag, and heat embossed a vintage Santa using gold embossing powder, and added some creme brulee ribbon.  I inked the background of the Santa tag with creme brulee ink, then a tiny bit of twilight and outdoor denim inks.  I also inked the edges of the Santa tag a tiny bit with Timber Brown Staz-On ink.  I attached the dimensional element using pewter square brads.  I used two felt flourishes with a little outdoor denim ink-the flourishes are already twilight so adding outdoor denim added a little depth to them.  I attached them using liquid glass, as the felt won't stick with glue dots!  I attached the Santa tag with two strips of foam tape, and voila!  Tag is done.  I think I'm going to go back and use my edge distresser on the edges of the tag, then use some cocoa ink to darken up the edges.

I was pretty proud of myself for trying this-as I like to distress, but usually Tim Holtz is way too distressed for my tastes.  But something about those 12 tags got me excited and I decided to give it a try.  I think I will even make more!

What am I going to do with them?  I have NO idea!  Maybe hang them up all together or something.  I will let you know!

I am clearing out some stamp sets to make way for new ones!  The new Spring 2010 Idea Book will be here before you know it, and I  know that I will "need" new stamps!  So I am selling some of my own stamps to make way for new ones.  Some of these are really hard to part with, but I haven't used them in a while, so I want them to have a new home where they will be put to good use.  Here's list with prices, and a slide show as well.  The slide show is NOT in order of the list, but it does show the condition of all the stamps.  All of the CTMH stamps are in good condition even if used-always cleaned and protected from sunlight.  The Stampin' Up sets are in very good condition-very slightly used.  The Technique Tuesday sets are either new or slightly used as well.  Prices are marked.  Email me at if any of these need to come to your house!

Emporium Acrylic Album

This slideshow features a another fabulous mini album-this time the My Creations Acylic Album.  This one uses Emporium paper and coordinating My Stickease, window charms, and cocoa ribbon.  Yes, that's IT!  It's not even a half of a paper pack, and I did not stamp anything for this album!  The best part is, CTMH's Bonding Memories glue works GREAT for adhering the paper to the acrylic.  I used to use Liquid Glass, which works great as well, but it was messy to smear the LG around with my finger so you couldn't see it.  With Bonding Memories, it's not necessary!!  Check it out!

Cocoa Grosgrain Ribbon z1100

The design for this album comes from my very talented and wonderful Senior Executive Director Tina Sutton.  She designed this album and taught it at the NJ Scrapbook Expo.  She very generously shared the directions (and the whole kit, actually!) with those of us who worked the expo.  Thank you Tina!!!

Jingle All Sorts Mini ALbum

Here is a great idea for an economical holiday gift!!  It takes less than half of a pack of any CTMH Level 2 paper pack, the album itself, and I added some stamping (of course!) and some My Stickease.

Jingle Level 2 paper pack x7115b
Jingle My Stickease x7115c
Heartfelt Die Cuts- Wonder z1210
White Daisy Mini Medley Accents z1136
White Daist Grosgrain Ribbon z270
Creme Brulee Ribbon z1131
Holiday Collection Ribbon retired
Snow Flurries d1384
No Peeking d1177

Colors in this paper pack are Tulip, Juniper, Olive, Creme Brulee, and White Daisy.  Go here to see Jeanette Lynton's projects featuring these colors as well.
Go here to buy the recipe materials on my website.  Many of the material I used I had in my craft room already, so you could always substitute embellishments that you already have for some of the things I used.

Remember, people appreciate hand made gifts that are made from the heart.  Especially in these tough economic times,  it's important to really think about what "It's the thought that counts" means to you.  Does your gift mean more when it costs more?  Or is it really about how much love and thought you put into your hand made gift with all its little imperfections?  I know which one I'm choosing!!

December is also a great time to have a party-because FELICITY begins in December!!  What is Felicity?  Well, you'll have to come to my table at the vendor fair to see a flyer of it.  But what if you don't want to clean up your house for everyone to come over?  That's okay-you can have your party at MY house!  It's easy to do, I do all the work, you just bring your snack, your friends come here, and I get your party going!  My home is non-smoking and mostly pet free, we have one old cat who comes in but he never bothers anyone.

I hope to see many of you and your friends at the Vendor Fair!  I am so excited!!

Two Jingle Creative Basics cards...

**Second post today, be sure to scroll down!***
The first card is the super special Holiday card in the Jingle Holiday Card kit that I still have available if you want to make your own really cute cards!  The second card is also made with Jingle Creative Basics paper.  We are making this card at Jessica's gathering in November.

Jingle Creative Basics paper
Juniper card stock
Creme Brulee card stock
Tulip card stock
Inks in those three colors as well
White daisy card stock
December Word Puzzle in the circle card (Hurry to order this D1313 if you love it, it's retiring in December!!)
Holiday Trinkets D1366
Snow Flurries D1384
Juniper grosgrain ribbon in the circle card comes with the Jingle Creative Basics paper pack.
The circle card pattern is in Wishes, while the standard card pattern is in Originals.
So what is a Creative Basics paper pack?  It's ideal for card makers, because it's a pack of paper that coordinates with one of our new paper packs (in this case, Jingle), and it features two DIFFERENT B&T papers.  There is no card stock, which is why it's great for card makers.  You need card bases and some coordinating card stock, and you can whip up cards to your heart's content.  The Creative Basics packs also come with a spool of ribbon.
The specifics of this pack:  Item number X5808, Fall/Winter Idea Book page 30, $7.95.  It contains 6 sheets each of a striped B&T and a circle/polka dot B&T, plus 4 yards of juniper grosgrain ribbon that is unavailable otherwise.  The cards in the Holiday Card Workshop photos below use the circle B&T, so be sure to check that out.

Getting rid of Inky FIngers

You know how I know it's been a good day or night?  By the status of my fingers!  If I'm totally inky, it was a good day!  However, sometimes I need to look "presentable", so how to get the ink off your fingers in time for whatever it is you have planned?  You certainly don't want to skip stamping!  Heck no!

So here are two really good ways to get ink off your fingers:  One is to wash your hair.  Shampoo removes oil from your hair, and does the same for your fingers and removes the ink at the same time.  Plus scrubbing away at your hair is faster, simpler, and easier than scrubbing with a nail brush at the sink, which doesn't work anyway.

If you are in a pinch and don't have time to wash your hair, then I have found the BEST soap for removing ink!  I have a fancy bar of soap that I got a while ago and don't use much because it has real bits of lavender in it, and it's a little rough for the kids to use.  It's a lavender bar of soap with lavender in it, and it removes ALL the ink!  Super fast, easy, and simple!

The bar I bought looks similar to the one above, really chock full of lavender bits.  I am not 100% sure where I bought it, but I think it was a little shop out in western PA.  I was in a soap obsession then and bought tons of bars of soap for who knows what reason!  The lavender bar is probably the last from that splurge.  Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!!

It's gonna be EPIC!!!!!!!!!!

Norwegian Epic, to be precise! Beginning on October 1, 2009, I am working on earning a FREE cruise on this amazing new ship! You can check it out by going to and seeing why I am determined to make it on this boat!

Close to my Heart rewards consultants who work hard with fabulous trips like this one. This particular cruise that I am working towards is sailing to the Eastern Caribbean in March of 2011, during the week of my 39th birthday! What a great birthday that would be!!! I have exactly ONE year to make it on this boat, and I need your help!

You know I love my business, and this company, and I really love to share it with everyone! What I need the most is REFERRALS! I understand you may not be in a positon to order what you really want to order right now, and it's okay. I am not expecting that! What I would really appreciate is referrals to people who are new to CTMH and would like to have parties! Parties are great for sharing with each other our ideas for using our stashes of scrapbook paper, and it's a chance for us girls to get together and play! So if you know someone who would like to have a party, or you would like to have one yourself, PLEASE let me know so I can schedule it right up and get working on sharing the LOVE of scrapping and work on getting on that cruise ship!

I can't wait to see what kinds of sea glass I can find in the Eastern Caribbean!!!

Thanks so much! Want to go with me? Sign up with CTMH right now and earn this amazing trip yourself!

Happy Mail!!!

Yesterday I got a package in the mail from Tina S, with an adorable card inside, as well as a Brighton key chain!  I was so excited!  Tina is the Senior Executive Director of the Scattered Hearts, and I am a wee little part of her huge team.  I got to work with Tina at the NJ Scrapbooking Expo at the end of August, and the card was about that.  I learned so much about expos and my business in general that weekend and I'm so glad that I got to participate in the event.  Thank you Tina!  And I will sit next to you in Directors' Row in DC!! WHOOO HOOOOO!!!!

Scrapbooker For Hire!

This is my first ever commissioned scrapbook!  My friend Ray asked me to make a ten page wedding album for a family member who is getting married this coming weekend.  I use Close to My Heart's Silhouette paper pack and all sorts of techniques.  I am not a huge heat embosser, but it looked really cool and I did that several times.  I also used liquid glass, brads, My Stickease, ink distressing, foam tape, dry embossing, and probably more but I can't remember!

If you are in need of a scrapbook, for a present or for yourself, please contact me at, or 609-713-2395.  I have lots of options and prices vary with what you want.  I can do things from a 6x6 accordion album up to a full 20-page 12x12 album.  I'm very excited to start this new little side business!  I already have two more wedding albums lined up, so if you are thinking about it, especially as the holidays are coming and you may want a handmade gift, please don't wait until the last minute!

At our Ninth Annual BBQ this year, we had THIRTY FIVE KIDS!!! That's our most ever!  Many were repeat guests, some were brand new to our party, but all had a great time!  Two of the kids had left before we took the picture, but I counted them in the number anyway, since they put away so many clams!!!  Our littlest guest was only a few months old, and then at the high end of our Kids list we had teenagers.  What a FUN BBQ!!!!  Best yet!!  I can't wait to scrap this photo and hang it with 2007 and 2008, in the guest bathroom where everyone is sure to see it!

Good Save!!

This month for my clubs and workshops, we created our own B&T (background and texture) paper using CTMH stamps.  This is a really cool way to maximize your stamps, as well as personalize your pages.

We used Back Country colors, and several stamp sets including Backwoods, You're A Hoot, and Campin' Fever.  One of my very good customers and friends (waving to Mo!) was really in the groove, stamping her little heart out, and she didn't notice that ink had built up on her block, as it sometimes does.  When that happens, if you don't catch it, you may end up with ink lines on your page that are unintentional.  Well, Mo had lots of these going on, and she decided to make it an intentional part of her design instead of starting over.
She simply inked a block with colors and added to the unintentional lines to create a really cool random stamped paper!  Good Save, Mo!

One of my other club members, Jessica, also made a great save, but I didn't have my camera handy to capture it.  Another feature of the Back Country LO (scroll through a couple of older posts to see the whole layout) was dry embossing.  Jessica put her olive base page into her trimmer and used the embossing tool to score a line, that she would sand in the next step to expose the white core.  However, her paper moved in the trimmer and she ended up with a crooked line.  Rather than get upset that she had made a mistake, she simply added more "crooked" lines and ended up with a great effect!  It looked like she had wound hemp or fibers around the bottom of her layout!  It was another Good Save!

If you would like to attend a club meeting to check it out, you're more than welcome!  Please email me at for the latest dates!

Changed it up a bit...

but I can't get rid of that green background at the top of the blog!!  If anyone can advise me on how to change it, I'd appreciate some help!  Thanks!!

Thursday, August 6, 2009

In my last post I gave you a little hint of what is coming up in Close To My Heart:  Studio J.  Close to My Heart has spent THREE years developing this revolutionary new online design tool to help us all get our scrapbooking done!

I love the CTMH style of scrapbooking.  I find that it suits me very well, and I enjoy designing pages to compliment my photos and memories rather than just gluing pictures to pretty paper.  I have avoided digital scrapbooking because I don't like the look of it.  I can always tell when the layout is digital in the magazines, and unless you have really sophisticated software (read expensive) then your choices are pretty limited.  While you can buy a button online and then make it any size or color you want, you still have to find the button that goes with what you're doing and you still have to buy it.

CTMH has once again taken the lead in the scrapping world and has developed a program that puts everyone else to shame.  Now I know I'm biased, but with Studio J there are SO many advantages.  I will try to sum them up for you here:
*FREE online design program-nothing to buy until you want to purchase your layouts
*Gives you the option to try CTMH paper packs with your photos to see which look you prefer
*Preloaded with CTMH designs from Cherish and Imagine
*Retired paper packs and EXCLUSIVE paper packs will be available
*Layouts are printed at CTMH onto high quality scrapbooking paper, so you can further embellish at home with your own lumpy-bumpies, or you can embellish online
*Layouts are printed as PAGES, not books, so you can do two page layouts and add them to your books whenever you want, instead of needing enough photos to fill a book at one time
*Embellishments are selected based on the design you choose, and you can toggle them to suit your color needs
*Intuitive program, so it guides you along-you do not need to be a computer guru to figure this out!
*Did I mention it is FREE????

Please visit the Studio J website to see the preview video here.  The program will be released to consultants this FALL (I am so excited!!) and to customers sometime in the spring.  You will be able to go to my website  and do your Studio scrapping, plan pages, and either buy the studio pages or order the classic supplies with me.

I am really excited about this and I can't wait to show you all how easy this is going to be and how you can use it to catch up on your scrapbooks.  As a confirmed CLASSIC scrapper, I can tell you that I initially felt some concern, but then I saw the video at and I also watched one for consultants only from our founder and CEO Jeanette Lynton about it, and I am 100% on board.  To me, it's like a different version of our level 1 and level 2 kits!  I hope you will visit the site and see what it's all about, and plan to come to my Customer Appreciation Party on September 12th from 1-4 pm or 7-10pm, because I will be talking more about it then!!!

Back Country Fever! I am lovin' this month's layout.  I chose the design called Swing Rhythm from the CTMH how-to book Imagine and based this design on it.  The owl paper is random stamped!  How cute is that?  That way you can choose any of the colors in the kit as your focus color.  I used a lot of olive green, and brightened it up with crystal blue and goldrush.  My photos are still at Walgreens being printed but I know it will be super cute when it's finished.

My clubs and my workshop this month are creating this same layout.  All paper is pre-cut except for the white daisy, which needs to be stamped first.  Below is a close up of the random stamping.  The workshop cost is just $10 is is scheduled for August 9th at 1:30 pm at my house.  Please email me if you are interested in coming!!

Back from Vacation!!!

We are recovering from vacation today!  Eleven hours in the car with NO melt downs from the kids!  Isn't that amazing??

This fella and all his friends really enjoyed us on vacation, since we saved bread scraps and fed the birds almost every day.  Several times it was like being in the movie The Birds with them all swarming around us and hearing their wings beat against the air.

The last three days were very important for Close to My Heart!  The company held its Leadership Convention in Long Beach, CA, and unveiled an amazing array of new products, new ideas, and new directions that the company is taking!  It's ALL good!

Here are some hints:
**New format for the Idea Book
**FOUR new paper packs with super cool new accessories (what happened to #5??  See below)
**STUDIO J:  with "paper pack" #5 exclusively available here.  What is Studio J?  Click here to     see a short video explaining this new complimentary computer program!
**Updated products like an eyelet setter, edge distresser, BONE FOLDER, and more!
**New WORKSHOP format too!  Now workshops will be one discounted price and will include a paper pack, B size stamp set that is exclusive to the workshop kit, a full accessory pack, and the workshop guide!  ALL workshops every month will be $29.95 and we can choose to do two layouts or a card workshop!  Look for my newsletter for more information.  If you are not on my newsletter email list, please sign up on the right!!

There is so much more to share with you!  I am planning a customer appreciation event for early September so YOU can see and touch all the new goodies and learn more about this amazing forward thinking company!!!

Rainy Day Fun!

Well, it's raining here today, so no pool! A few weeks ago, while helping my mom clean out a room in her house, I came across a book from my childhood called The Everything Book. This is a wonderful book! Lots of games, songs, riddles, and ideas for creative play.

This morning, it started to pour, ruining our plans for a big outing to the post office! So, instead we whipped up a batch of play dough. I have made play dough before, using recipes on the internet, with terrible results. Too sticky, too long to make, etc. This recipe is the one my mom used to make when I was little, and it is perfect!

Mix together:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
3 tbsp oil
1/2 cup water
food coloring to desired color

We made one batch, then divided it into two lumps. Maggie chose to color hers pink, and Nate of course chose blue (for Thomas!). They played together without fighting for over 30 minutes! A record! Put into plastic baggies when finished and keep in the fridge. Awesome!!

Sticky Boy: Ever wonder how well CTMH My Acrylix would hold up?

If you ever wonder how well Close to My Heart's My Acrylix stamps would hold up in....a car wash, on a bowling pin, in a fire....tehn please go here and check out this video made by CTMH!

This mystery box was as good as the rest.  Although I had gotten Key To My Heart paper in another goodie box,  I was stoked to get it again.  It was a promotion last year and isn't available for purchase, so I've been hoarding the last pieces that I had.  Now I can use them again!  LOVE those colors.  All the stamp sets are new to me, so that's exciting.  I really like the 6x6 scrapbooking kit too.  I have a 6x6 My Creations accordion album, so I think I can pop those pages right on the album and get a quick gift done in no time.  What a wonderful campaign this was!  Thank you to all who were able to purchase a box or another item on my website in June.  I really appreciate your business!!

Flippin' and Flappin'

As a scrapper, I often find myself in the position of having tons of photos that I want to include, but I don't really want a 50 page album all from one event.  A solution to this is Close to My Heart's Flip Flaps!  These handy 4x6 pockets have adhesive on one end, so all you have to do is pop your picture in side, or journaling, then attach it right to the page protector!  The layout on the left shows the page I made about our trip to Strasburg, PA.  The kids were really funny when they were lining up for the pictures on the left, so the top photo is actually several stacked up Flip Flaps, so all the photos from that part of the day are on there.  In the space for ONE photo, I was able to fit FOUR photos, and underneath the Flip Flap is a journaling block.  In total, the page has EIGHT photos, as well as two 4x6 journaling blocks.

I put this album together in no time flat.I made a total of 12 pages documenting our trip to see Thomas.  I mostly kept my photos in 4x6 size to make it go faster, and I also kept inking and distressing to a minimum.  I picked cranberry, moonstruck, and honey card stocks to go with the Thomas paper pack I bought at the gift shop.  I also kept embellishments to a minimum, and let the pictures tell the story.

If you'd like to purchase the Flip Flaps, please go here!

Summertime Fun

I LOVE summer!  My mom and I took the kids to a farm a couple of weeks ago and I just love this picture.  They picked strawberries for about 5 minutes then took off in search of ladybugs and butterflies.

We've also been swimming in the pool, waiting for A.M. low tides at the beach.  Next week we'll be going to the beach all morning, then maybe some pool time in the afternoon!  The kids sure do sleep well at night!!

I am planning a monthly card workshop, and details will be in my newsletter.  I will get that out maybe on Sunday, just because so many people are away for the long weekend.  If you are not on my newsletter list, please sign up using the form on the right!  I am sending it out a bit late this month because of June's Deal A Day campaign-I sent out at least 6 postcards about the mystery boxes and I don't want to overwhelm anyone!

Happy Summertime!  What are your plans for fun in the sun??

This weekend I have a card workshop featuring the card patterns seen here.  ALl patterns are from the CTMH card confidence program WISHES (I may have mentioned Wishes before.....a couple of times!!)  The feminine cards use Bella papers and the masculine cards use Back Country.  I used a variety of stamp sets for each card, too many to list here, but it's amazing how quickly they can come together and now I have a huge stash of cards ready to go!!

Please contact me if you'd like to come to a future card workshop-this one is full!
