Victory and Footloose Club layouts--yay!

I've gotten some of our NEW products recently and have been busy putting the club layouts together. While I have not yet photographed my own take on the layouts, these are similar enough so you get an idea of what to expect at club in the coming months!

Then I also put together the FOOTLOOSE kit...because it is AWESOME! I also got all the beach stamps available in the new book, and there were quite a few this time, so exciting! We won't do Footloose until summer, but I ordered it early anyway!

Also waiting for me upstairs is the Stella kit, so gorgeous as well! I think I have Stella planned for May, I will update my clubs page with the actual months/kits match up.

And, in an order coming this week (Valentine's Day, actually!) is Pemberly and Lucy--love both of these kits too! Pemberly may turn out to be my second favorite since it's blues and yellows, which I love!

Dino-Mite Scrapbook Pages!

Simply change your color palette and use your stamps for both boys and girls! So many stamp sets *seem* to be for one gender or the other--you immediately think one of the other with some sets. Roxie as Studio J Level 1

Isn't this cute? Very true to the physical kit color-wise, although in Studio J you can choose the colors you'd like to use. So instead of pink plaid, you could change it to blue or brown or green or purple...you get the idea!

One of my FAVORITE things about Studio J is you can use the coordinating Stickease images OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again! See on the left page, those three Fleur-de-Lys? That is a Stickease image repeated three times to make a unique embellishment. Stickease can ALSO be shrunk or made larger as you need!

Scrap Your Stash results!

Oh my goodness, Scrap Your Stash was so much fun! Maureen, Pat, and Maria came over last night and scrapbooked with me. We chose a layout in the Magic book and created it with what papers we had in our stash, and so everyone's pages came out differently! I used my Kissing Booth 6x6 paper pad that I had just bought at Paper Wings and some card stock, and those bitty pads work GREAT for this layout--or you could use up your scraps.

I used the same 6x6 pad and chocolate card stock and made the layout below, totally copying my friend Maureen on this variation of the layout above.

Then I got down to business and created a NEW layout from the brand new Victory paper pack that goes live on February 1st. We'll be doing this layout in March at Club.

And then, FINALLY, my blocks from the Rock the Block Campaign that ends on January 31st.

I took out all my beach-themed stamp sets, which was about 7 or 8 from CTMH alone, and just randomly stamped the card stock squares with different images. Even if the image was too big for the square, I stamped it anyway and liked how it looked--you can see that in the lighthouse block in the top right corner.

Sorry this one got blurry. My cat decided to jump up on my feet as I snapped this one. But you can see the seahorse in the middle is totally cool--bamboo rolled into lagoon ink--so adorable.

No rhyme or reason to where the blocks go in the tray, because these are going to go on my mantle when I get my summer stuff out.

That one in the middle is a border stamp that I just repeatedly stamped to look like one image. My crabby is upside down too--sorry!

One of my favorite tools...the VERSAMAT!

So what the heck is this thing? It is one of my favorite tools. It's called a VERSAMAT and it is about 13"x13"...making it perfect to use for creating your layouts. I actually have two of these side by side on my desk, one for the left page and one for the right page. There are grid lines along all sides, so it's perfect for lining up your papers on your layouts. The front side is self healing--making it a perfect surface for cutting. The back side is a thick foam, sturdy but GREAT for stamping! By now, if you come to my classes, you know that the way to a perfectly stamped image every time is to use the foam from the stamp set under your paper. That little cushion is all you need for great images. BUT...if you don't have the piece of foam for whatever reason, then you can flip your Versamat over and use the reverse side for stamping.

I use this Versamat every time I create, making it one of my MOST USED tools! Get yours here, for $14.50!

I am here in Ocean City NJ cropping away at the Scrappers' Anonymous Getaway! I am having a fabulous time but not really scrapping at all. I have been busy talking and laughing and teaching my classes. This is a GREAT bunch of ladies and we have so much fun!!!

If you even get a chance to go to a weekend crop, this one is the best!!!

Thinking Big...

I went to the library earlier this week and got myself 12 books--my kids are away this weekend for the first time and I wanted to be able to distract myself. One of the books I came aross was this one:

Donald Trump's "Think Big and Kick Ass in Business and Life". I have never read one of Trump's books, but I kind of liked the title and it made me laugh! I figured, what the heck, maybe I'll browse through it and get some business ideas.

From the first page, I was hooked on this book. It's not that he's the best writer I've ever read, it's that I can hear it in his voice and what he says makes total sense to me. I took his quiz about whether I have what it takes to make it big--and I do.

Many of his quotes resonate with me...this one especially: "If you are no longer passionate about your career anymore, then find something you are passionate about." --Donald Trump. To me, this is exactly how I felt about teaching. I was passionate when I was first teaching. I created fantastic lessons, I was thinking about how to teach things all the time, I thought about teaching every single day. A few years in, things changed. Maybe I changed, maybe teaching changed...maybe both. Once I had kids of my own, my passion absolutely changed. My passion is being a mom. Being the BEST mom I can. Being bled dry by my teaching job and coming home too exhausted to enjoy my children is NOT me. Yes, I know many people do it. Good for THEM. NOT good for ME.

So what is my passion, besides my kids? I honestly and wholeheartedly am passionate about Close to My Heart. I was thinking about it, as I read the book, if it was creating that I loved so much, or the teaching of scrapbooking, or what part was the one I was so passionate about. I love the creative side of my CTMH job, it's fun so it's not like it's work. I love working with people at crops, teaching them how to scrapbook easier and faster with better results. And that's where CTMH comes in. CTMH fully supports making this wonderful hobby easier and faster with better results. And that is MY focus too. CTMH focuses on its consultants and its customers. They focus on researching trends and the best products that will make life easier for us. They focus on how to make the job of consultant easier and more rewarding. They focus on us. Not many, if any, other direct sales companies do that.

I read a blog written by another direct sales leader, to keep tabs on what's going on there, and honestly her words leave a bad taste in my mouth every time I read them. She seems fake and phony and NOT focused on making her company focus on her consultants. I would never work for her. Not even if CTMH folded. From the moment I met Jeantte Lynton (founder and CEO of CTMH) I knew I had met a genuine person who truly believes in all of us (her consultants) and she remembers vividly what it is like to be on this side of the fence. She has so many plans for her company that in 100 years they probably couldn't catch up to her! If you've never read her blog, scroll on this page until you see her badge, and go read about her.

So what is my BIG DREAM? My big dream, simply put, is to grow my Close to My Heart business and help others do the same. People say you can't make money doing this. Really? I know someone who makes a 6 figure income from doing exactly this. And I am going to do the same.

INSPIRE...is my One Little Word choice for 2012.

Inspire:

to fill or affect with a specified feeling, thought, etc.: to inspire a person with distrust.

to influence or impel: Competition inspired her to greater efforts.

to animate, as an influence, feeling, thought, or the like, does: They were inspired by a belief in a better future.

My goal with choosing this word is to inspire myself to grow my Close to My Heart business in 2012. I want to inspire the members of my Sandy Hearts team to grow their own businesses--we could all do with extra money, right?! I want to inspire myself to continue growing and changing in my new life. I want to inspire others to create and scrapbook their memories and stories. I also hope to inspire other women to be STRONG. I found strength in myself this year, and although right now is really hard, I know I am STRONG and I can find my way out of this. I am a firm believer of one door closes...one door opens. I am waiting for the right door to open and I am excited to see what awaits me in 2012!

Art Philosophy Banner--easy as pie!

I made this super cute banner for Natey's birthday this week, and used the Art Philosophy cartridge for all of it. I had about 20 minutes to get it done, and that's all it took. I cut the banner pieces from cranberry, moonstruck, honey, clover meadow, and white daisy card stock, and stars from sunny yellow. All letters were cut from white daisy too. I ran all the small letters and the stars through my Xyron X tape adhesive thingy and popped them on, then used CTMH's Bonding Memories for the rest of the letters. All I used to string them together was cranberry ribbon and voila! A cute custom made banner that I could re-use if I want next year, just changing the 5th to a 6th! I used primary colors because Natey LOVES Mario Brothers, and their game packaging is very primary color-based. He loved it and I was happy it didn't cost me a cent. All the banners in the store were at least $5 and none of them fit my theme of primary colors, and I was tired of looking too.

And, by the way....I am still trying to figure out what the Universe is trying to tell me. Yesterday while making almond spritz cookie dough, I got a double yolk in one of my eggs. In all my life I have never gotten a double yolked egg. I bought the exact same kind of eggs I always buy, same size, and boom--there it was. Not a crazy thing, I know, but to happen THIS week was strange. Still listening!

One Little Word...

I don't really follow along with the One Little Word project that Ali Edwards does...but I do usually think of a word and think about it a little bit at the end of each year. This year I have some ideas of words that could define the next year of my life....

BEGINNING

CHANGE

FRESH

START

GROW

INSPIRE

At this time I have too many choices and I know I have to pick one...any thoughts? Are you doing OLW? What is your word for 2012? I have had many changes over 2011...and I am continuing to make more changes every day. Even little things, like where the trash can is in the kitchen, are changes I am making because it makes me happy to change things that have bothered me for a long while. More changes I plan on making include more purging of unnecessary junk that is clogging up my home, some personal changes....and more. I actually like change, it energizes me and gets me going. I have been in the grip of stress and anxiety for much of 2011, and going through a divorce that I had hoped would be amicable and as stress-free as I could make it be. But it was not to be and so it has been extremely tiring to go through the process, as well as causing much anxiety. I don't share a ton of super personal information here, but divorce is something that is consuming my life right now and maybe that would help explain a lack of artwork here on my blog. When I am anxious, I have a hard time creating. So days where I feel good, I do other stuff like clean up the house! There's not been much time for creating where I actually felt like creating. So hopefully in 2012 when things are more settled, I will be able to create much much more than I could this year.

A few Home Decor ideas from Close to My Heart

Ah, home sweet home, where we get to decorate to our heart’s delight! Add these beautiful DIY dècor pieces to your home to live inspired every day. We’ve chosen a sleek color scheme of Grey Flannel, Black, and White Daisy, with a pop of Pear, and we used the graphic flowers from the My Acrylix^® Dreamin’ Workshop set to add subtle texture to the White Daisy paper in the desk calendar and art canvas. Here are a few hints for you as you create these chic projects.

Desk Calendar

Create the triangular base of this calendar by folding a 12" × 12" piece of chipboard at the 3" and 7 1/2" marks.
Insert three pins from the Bling assortment (Z1466) and clip the sharp ends if they protrude too much. (Tip: You can use hot glue on the back to anchor the pins.)
Cut twelve 3 1/2" scalloped squares from Pear cardstock using the shape on the Cricut^® Art Philosophy cartridge (Z1686) and sponge the edges with Pear ink.
Cut twelve 3 1/2" squares from Grey Flannel cardstock and sponge edges with Grey Flannel ink.
Use the 3" chipboard squares from the My Creations^® memory game (Z1614) for the date tiles. Stamp the background flower pattern in second generation using Grey Flannel ink and then stamp the month or numbers with black StazOn^® ink. Sponge the edges with Grey Flannel ink. (Tip: Stamp two of numbers 1 and 2. Stamp one each of numbers 3 – 9 and 0.)
Back each month and date tile with the 24 pieces of cardstock and then punch a hole in the top for easy hanging.

Art Canvas

Cut a piece of cardstock to the size of your canvas. (Tip: Do all your stamping and inking first before attaching the cardstock to the canvas.)
Select four or five alphabet stamp sets, varying the size and styles. (Tip: You can create this “subway art” look with whatever alphabet sets you have on hand.)
Choose a few simple icon stamps to fill in empty areas.
Play around with the placement and spacing of the letters and icons before stamping.
Stamp the words and icons with black StazOn^® ink.
Attach the finished cardstock piece using a thin coat of Mod Podge applied to the canvas.

Vase

Cut out 130 2" scalloped circles from Grey Flannel cardstock using the shape on the Cricut^® Art Philosophy cartridge (Z1686) or by punching the circles using the 2" scallop circle punch (Z1392).

Staple the circles together in stacks of five.

Squeeze and scrunch the edges then adhere two stapled sets together on the flat sides to create a spherical shape.

Sponge edges with Grey Flannel ink if desired.
Place the finished flowers inside a glass carafe or vase.
Wrap Sweet Leaf ribbon from the Designer Ribbon green collection (Z1616) around the neck of the vase to accent.

I have been looking for a job for the past few months, and it's been tough. I have a teaching degree in Elementary Ed, and I left teaching two years ago joyfully. The economy tanked right after that and in NJ we had a new governor who really went after cutting the excesses in education. Unfortunately, that meant many teachers got cut and there aren't many positions that open each year. I went for a Mantoux test a month ago and had a panic attack that afternoon--all from the thought of going back to teaching! ACK! What is that all about? I am not sure, but I know in my heart I am not meant to be back in the classroom. I've applied to many retail stores too but with limited experience and my availability, I'm not very hireable.

My personal life has been through some major changes this year as well--since Easter I have had a hard time working my business like I want to. Between my parents working and most scrapbook events taking place at night or on weekends, I just haven't been able to get out there. I LOVE doing gatherings and teaching people how to scrapbook--it is truly my passion and I certainly love the products I sell with Close to My Heart. I do buy other products sometimes, but to be honest, I rarely like the scrapbook pages I make with other products. CTMH is my brand, through and through.

Why am I blogging about this? Because I want to be able to live on my Close to My Heart business! It was always my dream to be a great mom to my kids, and for me to be able to do that, I need to work from home. I understand that other people can work full time jobs away from home, come home and cook dinner and do homework and get the laundry done and all of that. And I did that for many years!

To be my best at my most important job, being a mom, I need to work form home. I can help others do this as well--even if all you want to do is make some extra money to buy your own scrapbooking products! I am experienced (just celebrated my FOUR year anniversary with CTMH), I am available (you can call me, email me, or text me with questions or concerns), I am knowledgeable about this business and also about scrapbooking techniques, and I am PASSIONATE about helping others be their best self too! I found this card on my new favorite website---http://completely-coastal.typepad.com! I love beachy decor and was looking for some ideas to create a beachy Christmas Tree this year. I stumbled upon the Completely Coastal website and spent quite a lot of time looking at all the fabulous photos. I plan on recreating this wonderful card with my stash of CTMH products as soon as possible--I am pretty sure I can get it pretty close. When I get it done, I will certainly post it. My son is sick and my daughter seems to be catching it too, but while I am taking care of them, I can plan all the wonderful things I want to make.

Dreamin', a beautiful Fall kit!

The featured layout with Dreamin'--paper ribbon, bronze Glitz Glitter Gel, and some Art Philosophy shapes of course!

Close up of the paper ribbon...stamped a pattern with goldrush ink on the goldrush paper, then folded one piece into pleats. Looks really good in person!

Two Art Philosophy shapes layered to make the flower, accented with Glitter, and I stamped the branches behind it. I popped up the flower with 3-D Foam Tape (my favorite!) and tucked some of the paper ribbon behind it too.

The second layout---spray inked the bases with chocolate re-inker and water. In the photo the paper looks really wrinkled, but it isn't...my spritzer pen sprayed in arcs because there was a bit of gunk on the sprayer part, so it made funny arcs when I sprayed. Also, that long brown piece on the top left page is supposed to be on the top of the right page--I accidentally switched the pieces but I had already glued the 12 inch long piece and I didn't want to wreck the base page. Oh well!

These paper flowers are from the Art Philosophy cartridge, of course, one Pacifica, one Goldrush, one Honey. I twirled them into shape, then put them under a 4 x 4 acrylic block and squashed the heck out of it. Then I glued it with Liquid Glass, sponged it with chocolate ink, and rubbed some Glitte Gel over it too. These flowers are really tight--I should have loosened them up more before I squashed them. The leaves are also from the AP cartridge, stamped, glittered, or spritzed!

This is the third layout we'll be making. It's based on a layout that Corporate gave to consultants at the Leadershare Event recently (I didn't go, but have seen pictures). For club we will make the scalloped square even bigger, I think ti will look better larger. Or make it rectangular. I added another piece of the orangey B&T patterned paper on the left, and then photo mats in Pacifica. The bases here are also spray inked--but you can see it's much lighter on this layout than the second one.

Same leaves as the second layout--layered and tied with natural hemp. I had some wooden buttons at hand and used on of those too.

This flower is the same as the ones on the second layout, but this one is looser and I think it looks better. I inked this one too, put some leaves under it, and then separated all the strands of a piece of hemp at either end, but left it twisted in the center. Then I folded it in half, stuck a glue dot under the twisted part and tucked it under the flower. There is also a Mocha Pearl inside the center of the flower. I like it! I am working on my clustering skills--I love how clusters look on pages but I don't always get it to come out right.

I November, we are using the fabulous kit DREAMIN', and the video shows some ways to add Cricut pieces to the already great artwork!

This is the first layout we'll be creating, but of course adding some Cricut flair to those photo mats! I really love blue and orange together, and orange is one of the HOT colors right now in paper crafting as well as in fashion and home decor. Did you know that at CTMH the designers look to fashion and home decor to see what is trending and what is hot, and then the designers translate those ideas into stamp sets and paper packs. So the book they may be working on may be from 1, 2 even 5 or 10 years ago. That means all their most recent photos are sitting and waiting for a VERY long time before getting their turn. Now, I would agree that to scan in old photos to use in Studio J would take a long time, may be expensive, and just not for everyone. But, imagine this: you are working on your son's 5th birthday photos (he is now 23!). You have a stack of photos you'd love to work on from his recent college graduation, but obviously, you can't scrap them because you are working on his 5th year album! WHAT IF....you continued to work on the old stuff WHILE you use Studio J to scrap the new stuff??? It doesn't mean you have to convert to digital!!! So many of us love to get inky and glittery and all that! It just is a TOOL to use how you want to use it! Not a replacement! Just an additional way to get your pages done.

Third MISCHIEF layout for October Club

Here is my third layout using the rest of my Mischief paper pack. I added Autumn Terracotta card stock for the die cuts, and colonial white for the bases, but all the rest is what I had left over after completing the other two layouts. I was going to add just more Sunset card stock, but I didn't have enough (or I just couldn't find it, which may be the reason!) and I thought Autumn Terracotta looked nice with this pack.

On the bases, I used my stipple texture tool and black ink--I just brushed it around very lightly so it looked smokey. I LOVE the effect I got! I originally was going to use black bases, then thought it was too dark. Then I tried Grey Flannel but it was not the same grey as in the paper (which is Grey Wool). So I tried this technique and I really liked the result.

I also inked the edges of everything with black distress inks (sold in a pack of two, one black and one chocolate, Z1296, $3.95) which is a chalk ink, not dye ink. The result is a smudgier look than what regular dye ink would give. Because these distress inks are only 1 inch square, it's super easy to go around the die cut base (cut with the Art Philosophy cartridge, of course!) even in the nooks and crannies. I will add more embellishments to this once I put pictures on it--I'm getting our corn maze photos developed right now.

Second MISCHIEF Layout for October Club

Here is the second layout using the Mischief club kit for October! Isn't it pretty? Totally fall-themed, no Halloween here! I used the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge for the leaves (and the coordinating stamp set that comes with the cartridge to stamp them) as well as the cocoa brown bracket on the left, and the journaling area on the right page. They are actually the same shape cut to the same size, but the one on the left I cut in half length-wise, and just cut the top off the one on the right. There are many different types of consultants in Close to My Heart, and you choose what you want to do with this fabulous collection of products! Here are some options that might appeal to you:

1. HOBBYIST: By far most consultants in CTMH are hobbyists, and CTMH works hard to offer many perks to them! Bulk products, early purchase power, a great discount (minimum of 22%, goes up with the higher your sales are), and wonderful project ideas!! If you choose to sell more to friends and family, then you can certainly do so! There are no limits here--sell or don't sell, it's all up to you. Minimums are the same for all active consultants--$300 PER QUARTER. Quarters run Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sept, and Oct-Dec. These are the same for all consultants. If you are generally spending about $100 a month in scrapbooking supplies, then this is a great option for you!!

2. CLUB LEADER: You already host a group of your scrapper friends on a consistent basis, and you'd love a way to streamline the process so that you are not frantically trying to come up with ideas and searching for coordinating accessories. Why not join CTMH and use our wonderful Workshop on the Go kits for your friends? There are a number of ways to use these kits, but they sure make life so much easier and it's pretty much all done for me! By being the consultant and offering these kits to your friends, you make commissions, they get great products, and the work is cut down to about 10% of t a time commitment!

3. BUSINESS BUILDER: Stuck in a dead end job and hate answering to others? Then Close to My Heart may be the way out of that situation! Once you get a strong customer base and have found some venues for your business, you may find yourself with enough income to get out of that dead end job!! Take a good look at the people you already know--do many of them scrap or make cards? Do they stamp? Would they be interested in holding gatherings for you so you get to know more people? If you are nodding your head, then it seems to me that you already have a customer base just waiting for you! And if you don't know a TON of people who scrap, ask this: have you ASKED people if they scrap?? I didn't ask until I became a consultant, and low and behold, I DID know a lot of people who scrapped, and they introduced me to more!! You can always start as a hobbyist and discover yourself to be a Business Builder!

4. CROP VENDOR: Do you go to lots of crops and there isn't a CTMH vendor there? Why don't YOU become the CTMH vendor?? You could be the vendor for products you love and still scrap the day away. Consultants are permitted to carry inventory with CTMH, although selling from the Idea Book is of course the recommended way. This is ONLY because to buy inventory, you BUY it and it's YOURS until you sell it. If you are able to invest in a few items, you can be a crop vendor. I have slowly built my inventory (which is NOT huge) by using Hostess Rewards that I earned when ordering my club kits (oh, yes, Consultants can be hostesses!!).

There are SO many options for what YOU want to do with your Close to My Heart consultant kit! If you decide that you really don't want to do anything more with your kit than use it for yourself and never buy a thing, you certainly scored a GREAT deal!!!!

Left page detail: the doily behind the folded paper/button cluster is cut using the Art Philosophy cartridge and then heat embossed with black powder-LOVE!

Right page

The other half of the doily is behind the title. The title is stamped (gently inked, to show texture and to show the sunset color behind the black ink) using my favorite large alpha, Rustic. I also black-heat embossed the raven on the letter S. The Memories is cut from the zip strip from the paper pack. LOVE Mischief! I am working on the second layout and hopefully will be able to post that tomorrow. It's much more Fall-themed.

I took the purple flourishes off and then had some tears in the green base, so I cut more purple and colonial white flowers and added them. Then I cut a large corner flourish out of bamboo and cut it in half, and added that under the flowers. I wanted to take off that larger purple flower from the top left corner of the white part on the left page, but it was stuck on there pretty good! Comments welcome!

Sonoma Layout for Streamlined Scrappin' Club!

Well, the picture quality is not the best, but here is MY version of the Sonoma layout that we'll be making at September Club!

Here's the brochure version again:

I widened the chocolate brown scalloped border and moved it to the bottom of the patterned paper block. I also used the Cricut AP cartridge to cut that out as well as the flowers and the swirly pieces.

I also stamped that swirly border with chocolate ink on the chocolate scalloped pieces. The pattern called for cutting two 1.5 inch wide strips of paper, then scalloping them with the corner rounder. I've done that lots of times and it works really well, but I wanted to see if I could do it on the Cricut with the Art Philosophy cartridge...and I could! I chose a double scalloped edge border, cut it pretty wide (probably at 3 inches), and did it at 11 inches long (have to select fit to length to make this work). When it's cut, I just cut it in half and trimmed the pieces to length. Perfect!

My other two Typeset Layouts

For my club this month, we completed this Typeset layout:

Before my club met this month, I completed two additional layouts with the same kit to see how much I could get out of one Level 2 paper pack now (since they were changed with this Idea Book). I added two sheets of Kraft cardstock and got this (made mostly with scraps!):

I didn't even follow a sketch at all (gasp!) but used my scraps and just made them fit. The photo mats of the right page were cut with the Art Philosophy cartridge (of course) in juniper and then matted with cocoa cardstock. The big number two is cut from Kraft and random stamped with a journaling stamp set I had:

I sponged some cocoa ink around it to make sure you could see the edges, and popped it up with foam tape too. Behind it is a juniper-colored award ribbon ( love that set!) and half of a scalloped circle that I had left over from the other layout I'm going to share with you.

On the right page, I made some more Cricut shapes (all from Art Philosophy):

The smaller shape is Kraft paper again, matted with leftover B&T from the Typeset kit. I put brads next to where it says Brother and Sister because I am going to make a layout about my kids with this one. That stamp set came with the Cricut cart, by the way.

The ticket is Kraft again, stamped with one of the sets that came with the cart, and topped with a Tim Holtz rosette from the Sizzix. I finally found one of those in AC Moore and used my coupon to get it for half price. It's the one that makes two mini rosettes--awesome! That border along the bottom there, that looks like lace? That is the zip strip from the Typeset kit! Don't throw those away!

The other layout is based upon Magic: Final Cut from page 122. I modified it a bit because I was too lazy to go downstairs that night and get my Magic book. So, I actually just cut stuff out! You who know me well know that I NEVER do this! But it worked out well:

This is pretty much what the second layout looked like in the Typeset brochure--it needs "more" but it's a good start. One thing I did that I REALLY like is I made my own corrugated shapes:

See the black bracket?? I cut that out with the cricut and ran it through my crimper! I had to dust off the crimper first, but it worked great! I want to rub some pearl paint on it to make it pop more. Behind the bracket is half of a postage stamp shape in creme brulee and half of that scalloped circle that I used in the previous layout.

I made the pennant on the cricut and plan to put some journaling there. There's the other half of the postage stamp piece and the other bracket.

This needs more too. The star shape come from the cricut but it needs some bling or something. I will jazz it up when I get some pictures on there. The scalloped border under the black cardstock also came from you-know-where---I can now say I am addicted to the Cricut! SOOOOO awesome!

I really love checking out other scrapbooking blogs! There are many CTMH consultant blogs that I go to just about every day because they are so inspiring to me. I came across this non-CTMH blog and thought it would be interesting to share with you--Here is the logo:

Make sure you go there and check it out! One of Close to My Heart's susperstar consultants has been featured there--Melissa Laverty whose blog is www.fancymelissa.com. If you've had our Idea Book in the past few cycles, you've seen her super cute kids featured in there!

Anyway, on this blog Eric (the blogger) goes through his scrapbook pages and analyzes them for success or needs improvement. I found that to be really interesting. I almost always use Close to My Heart's How-To books, so I feel that my pages are generally quite balanced in number of photos and papers used. I can't really go wrong with colors since I use CTMH colors exclusively. The one place I get messed up with is embellishments--I sometimes don't like how my clusters come out. But I know they all "go" together, since they're all CTMH. That is really my favorite thing about Close to My Heart--I don't stress over colors matching or embellishments going with my paper choices. I do know that most scrappers use a variety of companies to scrap--so I thought you might like this Load of Scraps blog. Happy Scrapping!

This is my girl, Maggie. She is going on her first overnight trip without me and I am not handling it very well. I know she's going to have a good time and I know she'll come home on Sunday with plenty to tell me about...but she's my girl, and I'm awfully used to her being with me 24/7. Who is going to tap me on the shoulder as soon as the sun comes up to tell me shes awake? Who is going to ask me five thousand "What if...?" questions all day? Who is going to make her brother laugh so hard he wets his pants? Who is going to make "rough seas" in the pool for us?

I am quite glad her brother will be home with me--I really don't think I could make it with both kids gone.

My favorite Idea Book EVER!!

Okay, yes, I do love every Idea Book when it comes out! But this one is truly my favorite! Close to My Heart has done it again--blown the doors off of creativity and has partnered with Prove Craft to offer the Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge!! I have had a Cricut for years, but rarely used it because the shapes didn't match my stamp sets and I found it hard to use the cartridges available with my CTMH products the way I wanted.

Convention 2011 has ended and I think I'm feeling some withdrawal symptoms--I'm still searching Twitter, facebook, and consultant blogs to see and read what happened! It was fun to stay up to the minute with all that was announced through Twitter-I think I even know how it works now (you can follow me there by searching for @jennifercoxctmh).

I was in a Twitter/Facebook frenzy today! One of my favorite reasons to go to Convention is you get to see everything and hear about all the new changes before anyone else, but we relied heavily on some consultants who Tweeted/Posted throughout all the excitement! I still miss being there, but I did get to hear about lots of things pretty quickly! You can see what's ahppening on Twitter by looking for #CTMH2011. No Disneyland for me this year...

Right now, hundreds of Close to My Heart consultants from all over the United States and Canada are getting ready to travel to Disneyland in California! I, sadly, am not one of them.

I had plans to go to convention in Disneyland this year, as I made the last two conventions (2010 in DC and 2008 in Orlando, Florida). I made my reservations in the hotel, had roommates, booked my flights and even knew which airports I preferred to connect into to make my flight easier. I bought my convention tickets, made plans for the kids, and was SO incredibly excited! I found out how easily it would be to get to the beach in California so I could put my toes in the Pacific and was super excited about that.

Right now is not a good time for me to be away from my kids for nearly a week. So I had to undo all my plans for convention and find, somewhere, a silver lining.

And being an optimistic person, I did find that lining. HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!

I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan and am going to see the last installment this Thursday, in 3D, in the IMAX Theater in Atlantic City. So while it is not convention with all my CTMH pals, I will get to see Harry save the Wizarding World. At least there's that!

Since I haven't been able to find my Mojo lately, I thought I'd tell you about our retiring paper packs. Close to My Heart is only bringing FOUR of the current paper packs forward into the new Fall/Winter Idea Book. They are keeping Mayberry, Lucky, Fanfare, and and Sophia. TONIGHT we are creating this fun album! The letters of the book are separate from the pages, making is super easy to apply the Mudd Puddles and let them dry while you work on the rest of the book. The book is held together with binder rings, not shown, and of course some ribbon jazzes it right up. I have lots of stamp sets to share that go with this beachy theme and will make your book look AMAZING!

We are getting together at 7 pm at my house in Tuckerton--I have two more kits ready to go if you'd like to join us. The kit is $28--the class is FREE! The paper pack, by the way, is Miracle, my current favorite for all things beachy. I hope you can join us!

Also, I will have more kits for sale at the upcoming Marlton National Scrapbooking Day Crop (next weekend) for those of you who are going to be there, and I will even have more kits later on in my NEW Etsy Shop! I am so darn excited! I just got an email from Close to My Heart that I have a new downline, and to my surprise, it is a lady named Colleen....who at one time was MY UPLINE! Colleen is a wonderful person, inside and out, and inspired me in so many ways. She is an extremely busy mom of THREE boys, wife, teacher, and is also back at school for her school counselor degree. At one point CTMH sort of fell off her radar, and she dropped out of the company. Once this months deal came along, she couldn't resist the HALF PRICE KIT and joined us once again! The curse of being Supremely Optimistic....

So I had a workshop/party today in Spotswood, NJ. Not really far away but far enough, about 1.5 hours. I knew that I could get there quickly and easily but...wrench in the plans: The NJ Parkway was closed for a few exits going north right after I get on. I have a GPS, no problem! I looked on Mapquest (I'm not entirely faithful to my GPS) and saw how I would get there. Easy!

My GPS wants me to take Route 9, the slowest of all roads in the whole state of NJ if you need to get anywhere on any type of schedule. So I went an alternate route. REALLY alternate. It went well for about an hour, then suddenly I was in the middle of NOWHERE. One lane country highway. Fields of produce swaying in the breeze. Horses. Preserved farmland...are you getting the picture? No one was around. Because I had consistently ignored my GPS until I got to this point, it clearly had some angst with me. Because suddenly I was told to turn left....into a grove of trees! Keep going, I said optimistically! It'll straighten itself out! Turn left...onto a road. Okay, I said, this will get me there! Suddenly, I see this:

Did I stop??? Heck no! Again, ever the optimist, I thought, this will just take me back around to where I first turned back there, just keep going! And they meant it when they said pavement ends...some of those potholes nearly swallowed my car!

Did I get back to where I started? Well.....first I drove through all sorts of fields where people were shooting skeet (not sure if that's the right terminology, but I didn't stop to ask). Then I drove along a river or lake on an even MORE unpaved road that ended in an enormous pothole filled with water. The best part was when I turned around to follow my breadcrumbs back out of this mess was the GPS lady telling me to "turn around when possible"!!!

I did get to the party...after I got a ticket....don't ask.....and we had a great time. Lesson learned when driving in my optimistic way: BRING A MAP!!!!!!!!

Maggie's first bike accident, 7th birthday, and Easter

Maggie took a nasty spill on her two-wheeler which resulted in a swollen face, black eye, and terrible bruising. Bless her heart, she got right back on her bike.

Maggie invited her two besties Claudia and Lili over for a Princess Party to celebrate turing 7.

Auntie Alex curled her hair for her real birthday party.

We dyed SIXTY eggs this year and it went very well--I had two sets of colors for them so there was no fighting over who had which color.

Natey was stoked by his Easter Bucket!

Maggie immediately ate some of her candy!

On the run--Natey would find an egg and yell HAHA! Then run right by five or six more eggs to find another. It was all about running, not gathering all the eggs in one spot before moving on.

Maggie is also on the run--see where her cheek looks dirty? That's the remnants of her bruise.

BEACH album class coming soon!

I got the albums in today! HOORAY!! So I just have to get the Mudd Puddles from my pal Colleen who ordered them for me, and I'll pick a date and send it out to you. This is much easier than it looks, and we can get everything done at the class. The Mudd Puddles dries to the touch in about an hour, and is totally dry within 24 hours, so we'd do that first and work on the rest of the book. Then we can attach the letters to the pages and you can take it home to completely dry. It'll be AWESOME!

I plan on offering Miracle with this class, although if you want another paper pack (current only-Sophia, Mayberry, etc.) then please let me know. I will be cutting all the paper for this class as well. If you are not on my mailing list and would like to be, please click the link on the right to sign up!
